Sarah is a British flute and piccolo player. She has studied with some of Europe’s finest musicians, and frequently travels between Germany, Belgium and the UK. She currently has a base in two cities - Antwerp and Manchester - playing and teaching
across Western Europe, and is studying on a specialist Piccolo Masters course in Antwerp.
Sarah’s passion for the piccolo means that she is eager to bring this beautiful instrument onto the soloist’s concert stage. She was recently awarded first prize in both the International Gazzelloni Piccolo Competition in Italy and in the Dutch International Piccolo Competition in Ittervoort. Over the summer of 2021 she took part two of the NFA's piccolo competitions, winning first prize for the Piccolo Orchestral Competition and second prize for the Piccolo Solo Competition. In the semifinal, she was awarded the distinction of Best Performance of the Commissioned Work.
Playing regularly as an orchestral musician, Sarah has enjoyed working with the Gürzenich Orchester Köln, the Ataneres Ensemble Belgium, Hallé Orchestra Manchester, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Northern Sinfonia, the Orchestra of the Welsh National Opera, and the English Symphony Orchestra among others.
With a heart for chamber music, Sarah is a founding member of Meridiem, a dynamic flute and harp duo which is enthusiastic about taking music into unusual settings. As members of the prestigious Live Music Now scheme, they have performed in nursing homes, primary schools, SEN schools, hospitals, and give regular workshops for young people with special needs.
Sarah's principal teachers have included Laura Jellicoe, Robert Winn, Aldo Baerten, and Peter Verhoyen.
In her spare time, Sarah enjoys drinking coffee, avoiding cooking wherever possible, and loves to travel.
