ABOUT//

Sarah is a British flute and piccolo player, based in Antwerp, Belgium. 

 

Newly appointed as second flute with piccolo of the Brussels Philharmonic, she is passionate about promoting the piccolo, especially to show that this beautiful instrument has a place on the solo concert stage. 

 

Having studied with Peter Verhoyen on Antwerp's prestigious piccolo master's course, Sarah was awarded first prize in several prestigious competitions between 2020 and 2022, winning the International Gazzelloni Piccolo Competition, the Dutch International Piccolo Competition, the Carl D. Hall Piccolo Competition, and NFA Piccolo Orchestral Competition. She was also awarded second prize in the NFA's 2022 Piccolo Artist Competition and the distinction of Best Performance of the Commissioned Work in 2020. 

Always on the lookout for piccolo projects, Sarah is currently assisting in the writing of a new piccolo method book, has joined the team of the International Piccolo Flute Academy, and is preparing a new series of piccolo recordings. For more info, visit the news page.

 

Previous orchestral experience has included working with the Hallé Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Gürzenich Orchester Köln, the Royal Northern Sinfonia, and the Orchestra of the Welsh National Opera, among others.

 

Sarah's principal teachers have included Laura Jellicoe, Robert Winn, Aldo Baerten, and Peter Verhoyen.

In her spare time, Sarah enjoys drinking coffee, avoiding cooking wherever possible, and loves to travel.
