Four of us from the Piccolo Masters class had a piccolo adventure in Ittervoort, the Netherlands, taking part in the finals of the Dutch International Piccolo Competition.
After a long time of practising on our own in small rooms and recording performances during the pandemic, it was amazing to be able to play for a small audience. To be awarded first prize - a Burkhart piccolo - was incredible, and I'm so completely grateful.
Pieces included Donatoni's Nidi, and a brand new work for piccolo and marimba, written by Jeroen D'Hoe; Patchwork.
The trip also included eating dutch pancakes, of course.
